Mini Hapa Zome Khadi Notebook

Mini notebook made using cotton khadi paper.

Pages were stained with homemade natural dyes, with the front cover hammered with a petal/leaf using the hapa zome ecoprinting technique. The notebook was hand-stitched down the centre with undyed cotton yarn. Each notebook contains six internal leaves (14 pages to write on). It has been stamped on the back with the Steele Studio seed logo.

Measurements: 5cm x 8cm.

  • - variety of natural dye exhaust baths, including gall nut/iron, blackberry, elderberry, buddleia, avocado

    - A6 cotton khadi rag paper 150gsm from Cass Art

    - reclaimed undyed cotton yarn

    - hapa zome flower/leaf grown in own garden, including cosmos, lavender, borage, yarrow, cornflower

  • - Khadi paper x 4 sheets = £1.39

    - Natural dyes = technically free

    - Hapa Zome flowers = technically free

    - Reclaimed cotton yarn = £0.02

    - Labour = dyeing + drying, selecting + hammering, assembling + stitching / 15 minutes @ LLW £13.85 = £3.46

    £3.46 + £1.39 + £0.02 = £4.87

    This with a margin would be cost prohibitive to sell. Therefore my standard margin of x3.75 has been applied to the cost price of £1.41 to cover labour and overheads.

  • With handling, this notebook will fade and wear in colour due to the natural oils in your skin interacting with the natural dyes of the paper. If it gets wet it will of course also bleed and pucker. Keeping out of the sunlight can help preserve the colours, however, the hapa zome hammering is already quite delicate and ephemeral. This should be taken as part of the charm of using such an item.

  • The notebook will be wrapped in a small sheet of recycled tissue paper to preserve it while travelling. If shipped alone it will be sent in a light envelope to minimise the amount of waste involved.

  • Royal Mail Tracked 24 or 48 are available services for UK customers. Unfortunately due to international selling restrictions for small businesses from the UK, international sales are not possible.
